Look up your council and see what is happening in your cat world.

Some councils have been pro active and have in place subsidies sterilisation programs run microchipping days and have microchip scanners in all their ranger cars for quick detection and early release of animals.

TO SAVE YOUR MONEY SOME COUNCIL ARE MAKING SURE ALL DOGS THAT ARE IMPOUNDED AND CLAIMED/REHOMED FROM YOUR POUND ARE MICROCHIPPED TO ENSURE COST EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF YOUR MONEY AND THEIR TIME. SOME COUNCILS ARE OFFERING DISCOUNT MICROCHIPPING AT THEIR ANNUAL FETE OR FAIR. PLEASE ENQUIRE IF YOUR COUNCILS IS BEING PROACTIVE.

We will list all councils and the services they are offering.

so watch this space for your council and the services they have to offer you and your cat.

If you are a council that wants to publish their services please send an email to caa@iinet.net.au

Notice:

It has been brought to our attention that some council rangers who have been called out to nuisance calls are not ensuring that trappers are implementing the basic guidelines from the RSPCA which include :

3. Ensure the cage is regularly checked (at least twice per day) so that caught cats are not caged for extended periods

Some traps are being check once a day and food and water is not being left in the cages and cages are not covered from the elements which is a basic requirement.

5. If the cat is not identified endeavour to locate the owner by doorknocking / letterbox drops in your local area.

This is not being done in 90% of the cases. Cats are held and wait for people to contact the council or report their cat missing.

6. If the owner cannot be located then endeavour to re home the cat (eg. advertise, contact Cat Haven, contact RSPCA, check your local vet).

Normally no advertising is done by council whilst the cat is held over.

If you are aware of this happening in your area please contact us caa@iinet.net.au

A full set of guidelines are published under "cat trap eradication program" on this website.

Ask your council to impliment No Kill Advocacy to your pounds http://www.nokilladvocacycentre.org/capa.html

Councils should be vigilant for puppy and kitten farms please report any one running puppy or kitten farms to your local council.
